Amari Sokoya Pearson-Fields, MPH (Washington, DC) is currently Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Control
Program in the DC Department of Health. Previous to joining DC government, MS. Pearson-Fields was the
President/CEO of Sokoya Consulting Group, Inc, a firm specializing in wellness programming, social
marketing, research, and grant writing.
Ms. Pearson-Fields has more than 20 years experience in
women's health issues including cancer education and prevention, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, tobacco,
and health care disparities for minority women. Findings from the Spirit Health Study were used to
develop a holistic wellness program for African American lesbians and bisexual women - The Spirit
Health Education (SHE) Circle program. This national women's wellness program provides health
education and support for healthy living for within a cultrually relevant framework. The program is
continuing to be implemented by the Matuner Project, the National Lesbian Health Organization.
She is currently a doctoral candidate in Public Health at Walden University.
